Friends strongly supports funding request for Highway 61 resiliency project

The Friends of the Parks and Trails of St. Paul and Ramsey County have sent a letter to US Secretary of Transportation Sean Duffy advocating for funding repairs along Highway 61 to mitigate erosion.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) has requested funding from the Promoting Resilient Operations for Transformative, Efficient and Cost Saving Transportation (PROTECT) Program for safety, mobility and accessibility improvements for a 2027 resurfacing project along Highway 61.

A recent embankment failure undermined a section of U.S. Bike Route 45/Fish Hatchery Trail, a critical recreational path adjacent to U.S. Highway 61 that bikers and walkers use to access our regional parks and other important destinations.

You can read the text of the letter, authored by Lauren Dees-Erickson, Friends Executive Director, here.
