Mike Goodnature, the natural resources manager at Ramsey County (and a man who has the perfect last name for his profession), has asked environmental groups to spread the word: Swans in Vadnais Heights are dying!
Lead tackle used in fishing has resulted in deaths of dozens of swans at the channel on the north side of Sucker Lake in Vadnais-Snail Lakes Regional Park. “Park staff have tried various methods to solve the situation, but stronger measures will need to be taken,” he says.
Feedback from residents and users of this portion of the park will be critical to gaining a better understanding of how the area is used, what a proposed closure could look like, and other solutions that may help save the swans. The county is hosting a virtual meeting on Wednesday, March 6 at 6 p.m. to gather feedback, as well as offering a survey that people can use to provide information.
Please tune in to the meeting or take the survey if you know anything that could help the county save these swans.
