Keller Regional Park, consisting of 248 acres, is located in the City of Maplewood in the east-central part of Ramsey County. Keller is Ramsey County's oldest park outside of Saint Paul, with acquisition beginning in the mid-l920's. The park's most notable landmark is Keller Golf Course which occupies slightly more than one-half of the park's acreage. The 18 hole, championship golf course with driving range was constructed in the late 1920's.
The remainder of the park consists primarily of picnic areas along the shoreline of Kohlman, Gervais, Spoon, Keller, and Round Lakes. Spoon Lake has a boat access for the chain of lakes. Canoes may also access Round Lake and Lake Phalen via Keller Creek with a short portage around the dam. Shoreline fishing is very popular along virtually the entire shoreline of Spoon, Keller and Round Lakes. A handicapped accessible fishing pier is provided on the north shore of Round Lake and handicapped accessible shore fishing stations are provided at Spoon Lake.
A 1 mile paved hike/bike path connects several segments of the park. These paths also connect to the extensive path system in Phalen Regional Park located immediately south of Keller. The path system in Keller Regional Park intersects with the l8 mile long Willard Munger State Trail which extends from St. Paul to Pine Point Park, 4 miles north of Stillwater.
Phalen Park is located on the east side of St. Paul and contains 494 acres. It has St. Paul's only swimming lake and has excellent walleye, northern and pan fishing in the deeper sections of the lake. There are 3.2 miles of hiking/biking trails and 10 kilometers of intermediate level cross country ski trails. Equipment rental and concessions are available at the chalet during open hours. There is an 18 hole par 70 golf course. The club house is a popular spot for meetings and receptions, providing banquet rooms with capacity for 250 people, and food service available all year. Sailboats and canoes can be rented during the summer months. There are extensive picnic grounds along the lake shore, including a picnic pavilion. Hiking and biking trails circle the lake.
