The deadline to order trees and shrubs for your yard, to donate trees to parks, or to choose a lovely budding-and-blooming rose for that special someone for Mother’s Day is quickly approaching. Orders must be placed and paid by Friday, April 22.
April 22 also happens to be Earth Day. Coincidence? Did the planners of Earth Day want to remind us that one of the important ways to do something nice for the earth is to plant trees? Parks and public green space help cool the urban heat island, provide habitat for wildlife and food for pollinators, filter our air and water, and give us opportunities to connect with our neighbors and mentally refresh ourselves. For all those reasons, and many more, please consider donating a tree to a park through our tree sale.
Replacing trees lost to emerald ash borer is an increasingly important task. Our parks need your help.
Luckily, the day to pick up trees you’ve purchased for yourself (no need to do anything if you give a gift to a park) is Saturday, May 7. Mother’s Day is May 8. Coincidence? Did the planners of Mother’s Day want to remind us that one of the important ways to do something nice for that special someone is to give the gift of a plant? One of our 13 plants for sale is a lovely rose that will have buds just waiting to bloom. It would make a beautiful gift, not to mention that its tough as nails and hardy enough to survive our Minnesota winters. Beauty and strength together, just like Mom (and Mother Earth).
