Dear Friends, A core initiative of The Friends is in jeopardy and your help is needed. The Ponds Golf Course and a wildlife rich 77-acre open space adjacent to Battle Creek Regional Park are both being planned for development. This is in contrast to existing No Net Loss in the County Charter. Please read the following Friends letter to Ramsey County Commissioner Toni Carter for details on this threat to our parks and open space. There is also an 25+ year eye-opening Pioneer Press editorial urging passage of the Charter Amendment, an article on its passage (with 85% voter approval) and the original Friend’s flyer proposing the amendment.
ACTION! Please consider writing the Ramsey County Commission to relay your concerns about this threat to our parks. The land is currently owned by the county so they are our primary focus. We also urge you to write or cc the Mayor of Maplewood as they are responsible for zoning should the land be sold to a developer.
